Classes

Throughout these workshops we’ll cover the techniques to create a mosaic that will last, we’ll cover tools and their uses, the different types of ceramics, bases, adhesives for interior and exterior uses,  basic design, mosaic terminology and finally resources. We all work at different paces and the tempo of the class is set by each individual. If you already have mosaic experience or are an existing student this project will add another layer to your skill base with support & tuition from me. 

"Mosaic Magic: A Creative Adventure"

Venue: Ellis House Community Arts Centre

Investment: $130.00 (All-inclusive: Choice of Terracotta base, materials kit, and use of cutting tools)

Time: 9.30 am - 4.30 pm

Workshop Objectives

  • To demystify the mosaic process for beginners.

  • To foster a relaxed, non-judgmental space where creativity leads the way.

  • To ensure every student leaves with a completed, beautiful, and functional piece of art.

Run of Show

  • Welcome & Warm-up Arrival, morning tea, and a quick "get-to-know-you." We will introduce the "adventure-based" philosophy—focusing on exploration over perfection.

  • The Toolkit & Materials: A brief overview of materials, including tesserae, bases, adhesive, and grout. We will also cover safety and how to handle cutting tools comfortably.

  • Design Adventure: A "discovery" session where students sketch their ideas or arrange pieces intuitively. You will provide guidance on colour, texture, and andamento (the flow of the pieces).

  • The "Glue-Up" Hands-on creation time. Students begin adhering their tesserae. This is the heart of the workshop: a quiet, meditative, and supportive period for everyone.

    • Lunch Break in the tranquil gardens of Ellis House. (Lunch not supplied)

    • Grouting & Finishing: A group demonstration on mixing grout to that perfect "peanut-butter" consistency. Students will then finish their pieces and learn how to buff them to a lustre.

    • 4:30 PM | Reflect & Reveal A final showing of works, tips for ongoing care and display, and a wrap-up conversation about future creative journeys.
